VHS R.I.P

posted on December 27th, 2008 - Filed in Uncategorized - 4 comments »

It’s official…VHS is officially dead. The last notable distributor of VHS tapes has shipped its last load during the Christmas rush. Distribution Video Audio of Palm Harbor, Florida has announced that they have now shipped out their last remaining  stock of VHS tapes.

You know what this means…Mom, Dad, time to break down and buy a DVD player before the plug is pulled on that format as well! Blu-Ray and online distribution are now challenging DVD. Who knows how long it will last.

Know anyone who is still not willing to part with their old VHS ways?

Happy Holidays !!

Or is it “Merry Christmas” ?

No, I am not going to get involved with that whole controversy !!  A “rose by any other name” I guess!  Whatever you call it – here’s wishing you a safe, relaxing time over the next few weeks – hopefully with family, friends and a ton of laughs!

Just a few notes for the “guys” out there during the Holidays….think of it as a short “master list” to make sure things run smoothly….

1. Don’t even think of doing your own Wrapping. You are not as “crafty” as you think. Leave the wrapping to a professional. No – a “gift bag” won’t do.  Your lady wants her gifts actually “wrapped” – it’s a fact – avoid the headache and do it right the first time.

2. DON’T DRINK & DRIVE. This one’s a no-brainer guys….the cab might take a few minutes of waiting to arrive, but it could save you years of grief (and maybe a life!!).

3. Politics, ’Mixed Martial Arts’ and The Calgary Flames are not suitable topics at the Christmas dinner table.

4. If you’re thinking about picking up that $6 bottle of wine for the party – think again.

5. When someone close to you says “I don’t want anything this year, you don’t have to buy for me” – don’t take that literally…..I’ve made that mistake before – and I’ve paid for it.

That’s it, that’s all – other than that – you are on your own guys!

All the best !

Christmas Crazy

posted on December 16th, 2008 - Filed in Uncategorized - 2 comments »

Christmas is my favorite time of the year… but it’s also the craziest. I love shopping for the perfect presents. This year though, in between moving to a new home… I’ve left my shopping to the end … and it’s become a bit of a blood sport.  I’m racing through the malls like a crazy woman. Not as much fun when it’s so frantic.

My holidays start Friday. We’re packing up the baby, the dog, the cat, the husband, all those last minute gifts… and heading to sunny Saskatchewan to visit the family. 10 hours in the car with the whole gang. Oh boy!

It will be great though… once we get there. I’m trying to focus on that calm moment when the traveling is done, the gifts are bought, the family is fed,  and all is right with the world. Mmmmm.

Happy Holidays to you all!!

Let the blogging begin…

Yup, it seems everyone has a blog. I’ve read plenty of them and yet strangely enough I have never bothered to start my own. Well that has changed. Welcome to Gadget Guy’s blog!

So what can you expect? Plenty. I get a lot of gadgets sent to me. Some of them make it on the show, others don’t. There simply isn’t enough time in my segments to fit them all in. So soon I will begin adding reviews to my blog. Some of items will be the ones you see in my segment, others will appear exclusively on this blog. From time to I will also be posting other tech tidbits you might interesting.

Stay tuned…lots more to come!

BT Bootcamp Results Show

12 days and counting to the final weigh-in!  Tune into BT December 23rd and see who will win our BT Skinny Jeans Bootcamp challenge!

I’ll be on location at Fitness Plus where 8 contestants (including moi) have been sweating it out for the last 2 months.  We have all been busting our butts (big props to our trainers who put us through tough workouts and put up with our whining) and I can’t wait for our viewers to see the results.  One BT viewer has lost close to a 50lbs in only 12 weeks! It’s going to be a really close race and I hope our bootcampers will inspire you to achieve your own fitness goals heading into 2009.  The morning aof the 23rd we will also be making over the bootcampers AND we will award the winning contestant with a wicked treadmill from Apple Fitness.

Let me tell you sticking to the fitness plan through the holiday party season has NOT been easy.  The bootcampers are always chatting about diet/workouts and over the next couple of weeks I will be blogging some of the recipes and healthy tips from our contestant.

see you in the morning! jb

Happy Holidays from Breakfast Television

Have you ever attempted to get the entire family together for a holiday picture? It’s a bit like herding cats.

That’s what we attempted earlier this month for a BT staff holiday picture. The assignment? bring your tackiest Christmas sweater and your cheesiest smile. We didn’t get everyone in it, but the photo is pretty hilarious.

Andrew Schultz borrowed my turtleneck (the mustache is homegrown). I’m convinced Dave Kelly wears that sweater on the weekends anyway. Producer Jennifer is throwing yet another temper tantrum (check her out… front row, middle – the one screaming). I like to describe my look as “joyful.”

Happy Holidays… Susanne

Have Toque, Will Travel.

Greetings….

Andrew here – with my first Blog ever !

I thought it might be fun to kick things off with an interesting (and warm) promotion we are having fun with on Breakfast Television.  It’s called “The Traveling Toque” – and here’s how it works…

If you are planning on heading out of town (for a holiday, for work – whatever the reason) – drop us a line here at “BT” (email: btcalgary@citytv.com) — let us know where you are going — and we will award you with a “BT” Toque (while supplies last, of course!)….Now, here’s where YOU come in….

While you are on your trip, we would like you to take a photo (wearing the toque) in an “indentifiable” location….ie. if you are in Egypt – we want you wearing the toque in front of a Pyramid !!!   Then, when you come back – email us the photo — that’s the whole “Traveling Toque” thing….exclusively on “Breakfast Television”.
