Oh Walkman! You sure have been around the block a few times. You started out playing cassettes, transformed into a CD player, and now you play MP3s. You’ve been in our lives for nearly three decades and keep changing with the times. Well guess what? Sony isn’t ready to give up on you just yet.

Sony’s new Series W Walkman is being dubbed as the world’s first “wearable” MP3 player. It’s a design which strays from the pack. It’s an all-in-one device free of headphone cables, giving you a hands free music experience. Breakthrough or Gimmick?

New Parent Workshop

posted on April 7th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

As a new parent myself, this workshop just seemed like a good idea. You are inundated with a zillion books on being pregnant and having the baby, but I’ve never seen any information focussing on you and your partner’s relationship during this intense time.

Here’s the story.

Kristyn Hall has a three year old and a 10 month old. She says life with kids is great, but when they first arrive, it can be hard on the parents and their relationship.
“I felt like I lost my best friend you know, and trying to figure out all those life adjustment things out – it’s hard.”

But professional coach, Jennifer Powter, has designed a new workshop to address those very problems.
Powter says, “there’s so much literature out there about the birth and how to take care of baby, but there’s not a lot that tells you how to keep your relationship solid during those first trying years when you’ve got small children.”

Powter, a mom herself, will address common stressors most couples will come across.

“Changes in intimacy and how do you stay connected when you’re sleep deprived, and changes in financial structure, time – you simply don’t have the same amount of time for each other, how to set boundaries with well- intentioned family members.”

Powter’s workshop is designed to help couples before they become parents because once baby arrives it’s hard to think let alone communicate.

“Being able to communicate with your partner and talk about the hard stuff before you’re in that stressed-out, sleep-deprived situation really  allows the relationship to grow together and for each person to feel they’re being supported,” explains Powter.

Because if each person isn’t feeling supported, the relationship can easily dissolve.

Powter says, “looking at separation and infidelity rates that happen when kids are under the age of 5 is astronomical… nuturing your relationship during that first year of baby’s life is just as important as taking care of the baby.”

It’s a workshop Hall says she would’ve taken for sure.
“Things you don’t even think of come up and I think it would’ve been a great workshop  to help start those conversations.”

Review: Pacemaker 2

Mixing music is an art. It’s certainly not easy to do and it can be quite expensive. Gear can cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Well Tonium has released a device that will let you dabble with the idea of becoming a DJ, without having to invest in an elaborate setup.

PaceMaker 2 is a pocket sized portable DJ mixing device. It allows you to play multiple tracks at the same time and transition between them through a number of effects. From simple cross fades to elaborate cuts, you can do it all with a bit of skill and patience.

Jennifer Pauley is a Taskmaster.

And I mean that in the most endearing way possible….

Seriously.  Believe it, or not, I need someone to keep me “on point” from time-to-time, to challenge me, and “light a fire” under…you know where!!!!!!!!!!!

And that’s where Jennifer Pauley comes in – she’s one of our “super producers” on BT – and she keeps ALL of us “Blogamaniacs” on-point when it comes to writing in this forum….I mean, what’s the point of having a “Blogosphere” if you’re not writing in the space on a regular basis?

I have been busier than the “Octomom” as of late….with work, family – and the various distractions that life can throw at an extremely good-looking, upwardly mobile broadcaster – but that doesn’t mean that I can simply ignore my Blog.

So, take a moment today – give yourself a second to “reflect”….ask yourselves – “Who gives me the guidance I desperately need in my life?”  –  “Who keeps me on task, and on-point?”  –  ultimately Who’s my Jennifer Pauley?”….once you’ve come to that conclusion — embrace, and celebrate that person (or ‘persons’) who keep you on-track.

NOW — onto the GIVEAWAY…..

This week’s ULTRA-LUCKY “ABC” winner is:

TAMMY  Y. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tammy – you have the distinction of winning THE LAST “McDonalds” Hockey Helmet set !!!

It includes:  1. The complete 6 helmet Collector’s Edition set.     2. A $20 Gift Card for McDonald’s.

Congrats, Tammy Y. !!!

That’s it – that’s all!

Pediatric Dentistry

Yikes!! I better get my daughter into the dentist ASAP. I did this story about four years ago, and the recommendations have changed. Little did I know.
This is why I love doing these stories, it’s new information every day!

Here’s the story.

Hard to believe, but Carla Loeppky is bringing her six month old son Paul to the dentist.

She’s been told, by her husband, Paul’s dad, pediatric dentist Dr. Warren Loeppky, that it’s  important to start early, to develop a life long habit of taking children  to the dentist to prevent cavities.

Dr. Loeppky says, “a good rule of thumb now is to see a child when their first tooth erupts into their mouth – that’s a lot earlier – where traditionally it used to be age three.”

So for the wee ones, it’s called a pillow visit, and it takes just a minute or two.

One of the reasons Dr. Loeppky wants children in the chair as early as that first tooth is because he says there’s a huge increase in early childhood cavities.

“There’s a large increase, up 20 percent of tooth decay in very young children, in toddlers and infants.”

Dentists are not sure why – but they do know it’s easy to prevent by getting that first visit in early.

Dr. Loeppky explains, “it’s just to make sure there are no cavities that the facial and oral  development  is normal and just to promote lifelong good dental habits for children.”

But it’s also important to look after your little one’s teeth at home. Once the teeth come in you should start brushing them as soon as possible, and get them used to having a toothbrush in their mouth. Or use a facecloth. And no going to bed with milk or juice in the bottle.

These are all things Carla is doing with little Paul, who didn’t seem too upset with his first visit to the dentist.

His mom says, “he seemed very happy, but I thought he might cry but he did great.”

April Fools!

What do you think of our April Fools joke?  Is our fake traffic flow study is believable?

We brought Cst. Mike O’Connor out of retirement to get in on the fun!  With 29 years experience in the traffic department, he is the perfect guy to sell the gag.  Knew we’d get Mike back on the show as our resident traffic expert!
