As a new parent myself, this workshop just seemed like a good idea. You are inundated with a zillion books on being pregnant and having the baby, but I’ve never seen any information focussing on you and your partner’s relationship during this intense time.
Here’s the story.
Kristyn Hall has a three year old and a 10 month old. She says life with kids is great, but when they first arrive, it can be hard on the parents and their relationship.
“I felt like I lost my best friend you know, and trying to figure out all those life adjustment things out – it’s hard.”
But professional coach, Jennifer Powter, has designed a new workshop to address those very problems.
Powter says, “there’s so much literature out there about the birth and how to take care of baby, but there’s not a lot that tells you how to keep your relationship solid during those first trying years when you’ve got small children.”
Powter, a mom herself, will address common stressors most couples will come across.
“Changes in intimacy and how do you stay connected when you’re sleep deprived, and changes in financial structure, time – you simply don’t have the same amount of time for each other, how to set boundaries with well- intentioned family members.”
Powter’s workshop is designed to help couples before they become parents because once baby arrives it’s hard to think let alone communicate.
“Being able to communicate with your partner and talk about the hard stuff before you’re in that stressed-out, sleep-deprived situation really allows the relationship to grow together and for each person to feel they’re being supported,” explains Powter.
Because if each person isn’t feeling supported, the relationship can easily dissolve.
Powter says, “looking at separation and infidelity rates that happen when kids are under the age of 5 is astronomical… nuturing your relationship during that first year of baby’s life is just as important as taking care of the baby.”
It’s a workshop Hall says she would’ve taken for sure.
“Things you don’t even think of come up and I think it would’ve been a great workshop to help start those conversations.”
