Dave’s Last Day on BT

posted on December 31st, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - 2 comments »

Lots of smiles and tears this morning saying goodbye to our friend and colleague Dave Kelly.  It has been a gift and a privilege working with Dave for the last 8 years.  Dave is a class act, a great leader and a generous spirit.  He signed off 12 years on BT saying,  “I always say the great things about mornings is everything is potential…. and that’s where I get chocked up… everything is potential here – you can go anywhere you can be anyone.  And that’s what’s so great about being with you the viewers… we got to have that potential of the day where anything could happen.  And I’m so grateful for that opportunity.”

We are sad to see Dave go but wish him the best in his new ventures with Kelly Brothers (the production company he owns with his brother).  No doubt Dave will be great at whatever he does.  After the show we had a little celebration with his family and friends.  Good luck Dave and we love you!

The New Year’s Eve Ball in Times Square is getting another makeover this year. Not only is the ball bigger than ever, it will also be  full of new technology.

The 12 foot wide 11,900 pound ball will feature 2,688 Waterford Crystals triangles (288 more crystals than last year). The triangles, each about 3/8″ thick and 6.8 ounces in weight are custom made and built to exacting standards to withstand the stresses of high winds, precipitation and temperature fluctuation that exist over 400 feet above Times Square.

As for technology, 672 LEDs will light up the ball, capable of showing more than 16 million colours. Even though the ball is bigger, heavier and contains more lights than ever before, it will still be the most energy efficient ball in history, requiring 20% less energy than last year.

zelda_spirit_tracksIt’s been awhile. Two years, in fact, since we last saw a Zelda title on the Nintendo DS, and 3 years since the Wii’s Twilight Princess. Zelda fans have been craving a new title and Nintendo has finally delivered.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is the 15th installment in the popular franchise. While the gameplay remains the same, Spirit Tracks does introduce a first for the series: now Princess Zelda plays along side you throughout the adventure. Is it a big deal? No not really, but the adventure does prove to be worthwhile sequel.
