Ten years ago Midway made waves with Hydro Thunder. The speedboat racer was not only a hit in arcades, but in living rooms everywhere after getting ported to the Dreamcast and ultimately to the N64 and Playstation. Now, more than a decade later, Vector Unit is breathing new life into the classic with a full-fledged sequel.

The original was well-known for its high tech boats and zany tracks (arctic circle, flooded New York City). Vector Unit is promising to bring back what fans loved “with top-notch visuals, brand new over-the-top themed environments and dynamic water-based racing”. Does it deliver?

It’s the eerie black and white puzzle-platforming adventure that has gamers buzzing. Right in the middle of the summer gaming drought, Playdead is getting ready to unleash Limbo to the Xbox Live Arcade community. It looks unlike any other title we’ve seen before. An eerie grey shaded puzzler with morbid humour thrown in for good measure. But is the gameplay itself as good as the game looks? Let’s just say you’re in for a treat.

At CES this year numerous companies told me confidentially Netflix was looking at coming to Canada. Well guess what, it’s about to happen. The company has officially announced it will open its service to Canadians this fall.

“Canadian Netflix members will be able to instantly watch a broad array of movies and TV episodes right on their TVs via a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix, as well as watching on PCs and Macs.” states a press release from netflix.

This is the first time the service is being made available outside the US. However unlike in the US, there will be no rentals via mail. Instead Netflix will strictly a streaming service. It will also only be available in English, but the company says it will expand to offer French service in the near future.

Three weeks after release in the US, the iPhone 4 is heading north of the border with a scheduled launch date of July 30th. On top of that Apple has announced a new white version will be available at launch, although in limited quantities.

The news comes as Apple defends poor reception on the popular handset. Steve Jobs spent a good 10 minutes explaining to the press today that smartphones  are not perfect.  In fact Jobs went on to explain many of the top smartphones on the market today have similar reception problems once in user hands. With that being said he announced bumper cases help alleviate the problem, and that is why Apple will offer a free case to everyone who has already purchased an iPhone 4, and a refund for those who already purchased a bumper. A free case will also be given to all new iPhone 4 customers who purchase the device before September 30th, including those here in Canada.
