A great tip from Carson to keep away the slugs and fruit flies in your garden and flower patch: Throw a bunch of garlic in a jar with water, marinate for 24 – 48 hours. Pour into a spray bottle … and spritz away. Thanks Carson!
A final note – if you know someone who’s going through a divorce and needs some advice we met two women behind a Divorce Seminar in Calgary this week. Bhairvi Johnston and Wendy Olson-Brodeur talked about things to do before you call the lawyer, the importance of having a suppport system of friends and experts and the key financial mistakes that people make when splitting their assets.

The Human Touch Fashion show took place earlier this month. The event was a fundraiser for Inn From the Cold, an organization that works hard at keeping families off the street, providing a safe place for the family and their children.
The Human Touch Fashion show was an eclectic mix of live art, music, fashion show, designers and artists, featuring talented hair stylist Cristalyn Sugano.

It was all glitz and glamour at the 2nd annual 2010 Calgary Choice Awards , which was originally called the Calgary Oscars, until the Academy sent the organizers a letter to change the name. As per request, the name changed a month ago to Calgary Choice Awards! Over 400 people attended the red carpet gala – Sold Out Success! It was a great opportunity for Calgary Small and Medium businesses to strut their stuff and feel like stars, on Saturday March 6th, at Flames Central. 380 companies were nominated by the public before Christmas. Over 5000 people (general public) voted on the nominees. Voting ran from Jan. 15 – Feb. 19, 2010.

Alberta Fashion Week (AFW) had it’s model call this Tuesday, March 2nd at Seven RestoLounge. AFW designers chose their models for their upcoming fashion week shows taking place March 21st – 27th, 2010.
Agencies involved were Mode Models, Numa and iModel as well as independent models.
Black History Month wrapped this past weekend with Legacies 2010: Shades of Black. This year, Collectively Eclectic showed the full spectrum of Black History Month. The event Celebrated African and Caribbean influences, to the contemporary. Project Runway Canada’s 2009 contestant Adejoke Taiwo and Olga Onulov showcased their fabulous designs.
Spoken Word 2009 National Poetry Slam competitors, Titilope Sonuga and Jen Kunlire wowed the audience, while Delightful Sounds echoed throughout the room. Scotty Hills mesmorized the crowed with his soulful sounds and Vex Cobo shook up the stage with his Dancehall reggae vibes. Lots of laughter took over the room as stand up comedian Rock Di brought out his A-game, while Just Vibez dance group fired it up!
We also got an exclusive preview of Centre Stage Theatre’s 2011 production of “The Wandering Tribe of Black-White Men”.
The After party had DJ Dex One spinning the best in Hip Hop, R&B, Old School, and that feel good music!

On February 20th, ten finalists were chosen for the Every Woman Competition. On March 20th, One woman will walk away with a one year contract from Ben Barry’s Agency, a trip for two to either Panama or Jamaica, a shopping spree and much more. The finalists will have one last shot at taking home the crown on March 20th at the BMO Centre, Stampede Park.
