Hundreds of Chiefs and thousands of delegates from across Canada are in Calgary for the Assembly of First Nations this week. This is the first time the AFN has gathered in Calgary to vote for a new National Leader. We were at the Welcome Breakfast this morning at Olympic Plaza where Chief Charles Weaselhead (Grand Chief of Treaty 7) and Deputy Mayor Bob Hawkesworth stopped by to chat. We also ran into Evelyn Locker – the *only* First Nations woman ever become a Stampede Queen. She was crowned in 1954 and is still proud of the title! Our 2009 Indian Princess Nikkole Heavy Shields hopes to someday follow in her footsteps.
