April Fools!

What do you think of our April Fools joke?  Is our fake traffic flow study is believable?

We brought Cst. Mike O’Connor out of retirement to get in on the fun!  With 29 years experience in the traffic department, he is the perfect guy to sell the gag.  Knew we’d get Mike back on the show as our resident traffic expert!

Well you got me! My blood was boiling and I was about to fire an email off to my alderman. It’s a good thing that the font at the end “April Fools” was so big, or I might have missed it and followed through with the nasty email to the City.

  2. Melissa Says:

Ha ha ha! That’s a good one, but I could see right through it. You guys could barely keep from laughing on the show! LOL!!

  3. Calvin Bowlby Says:

I knew that!! I just wanted to see how many people fell for it, I though the price of gold was the april fool’s joke actually.

  4. Brandy Says:

Very Good I have to say, do you know I was just about ready to get on the phone and say I have to move because this city gets more and more unbelievable but first I had to print this proposal off to have proof to my friends and to only find out it was a joke that is absolutely Hilarious.

Thank you for that it was great :)

  5. Ryan Says:

    well done BT, Well done!

way too beleivable, i live in somerset in sw and drive most days of the week to the sunridge industrial park. It was very upsetting to me because i don’t have another route i can take blackfoot ect for a bit but i will always have to get on Deer Foot. I hope this isn’t true, i don’t have the luxury of taking the train unless i can handle two hours on bus and train, and i am 7 mos pregnant . So very not cool.

  7. Michele Rakochey Says:

Now seriously, come on what about the people that live off the deerfoot that they only way out of there subdivisions is the deerfoot. So now your going to push more traffic onto Macleod? Really like that’s not already overcrowed> My question is do they sit and think about this stuff over drinks?! Why don’t they have one lane used as a car pool lane if they fine a car on the lane with one person slap them with a three hundred dollar fine, before we start adding more rules lets inforce the ones we have already

  8. Nancy Says:

Didnt fool me this year. Better luck next year.

  9. Michele Rakochey Says:

I just realize that is an april fools day joke…good going guys you had me …..

  10. Lindsay Ulsifer Says:

I couldn’t believe it. I thought there was no way that the citizens of Calgary would go for that, but it seemed like something that the Mayor and Alderman would think up as a way to get more cash in.

Way to go guys!!!! You fooled me. I didn’t even think about it being April Fools Day.

  11. Carly Says:

I was TOTALLY fooled! LOL! But surprisingly not really that shocked :-(

Initially, I was worried mainly about the parking on even/odd days downtown. What would people do if they had a meeting and it fell on the wrong day? What a nightmare that would be. Hopefully someone from the City doesn’t see your newscast and thing this might actually work…

In any event, it’s kind of sad that so many people in Calgary were fooled. What does it say about our faith in City bureaucrats if so many Calgarians can ACTUALLY see them coming up with a traffic solution that is so idiotic and impractical? To me, that is the bigger issue.

You BT tricksters are good :-)

  12. Julie Field Says:

LOL Very funny! I was getting soooo upset and thinking how can this be real? An hour later, as I was telling my husband, I finally clued in! APRIL FOOLS!!! You kept such a straight face, way to go! I used it on my daughter (who absolutely needs Deerfoot to get to school) and she was livid with the City of Calgary! Ha! Ha! Thanks, I totally needed a laugh today!!!!

  13. Twyla Misurko Says:

Have to love a news/morning show with a sense of humour!!!!

When I first heard it, I thought WTH?? Once I woke up a little I remembered it was April 1st!

    Very well done…

thanks for the morning giggle… now I have to go and get the rest of the people that I owe a prank.

    Thanks again!
    Twyla

I was hoping it was true. Everyday I see people doing many other things besides driving even though they are behind the steering wheel. Yesterday I saw a woman curling her eye lashes while “driving” down McKnight. This can only be seen as ridiculous and at the very least driving with undue care and attention. Unfortunately it seems that common sense is not very common and people who have these habits only respond to big fat tickets. I would LOOOOOVE to see some starting to be handed out. However it can be. And if that includes cameras or me given authority to do it; so be it. Cell phone use while operating a vehicle needs to be prohibited, especially texting. Ridiculous.

  15. Sharon Shupe Says:

Nice try, folks. I’m always on the lookout on this day for prank news, and this story smelled too fishy right off the bat. On the other hand, you guys pulled it off pretty straight-faced – if I had gone out drinking last night it might have bypassed my spidey senses and taken a foothold in my foggy morning-after brain. Nice performance!

  16. Dan Says:

I bit for about 30 seconds. ONLY because sadly, with our city administration, it wouldn’t surprise me.

  17. Jessica Says:

Second year in a row you guys got me… I think its easiest when you catch people when they’ve just gotten out of bed!

  18. Gilles and Cindy Says:

Boy, you can sure keep a secret, Mr. O’Connor!!! I was at your place for dinner the night before and you did not even crack a smile when you said you had to have an early night to look your best for your TV appearance…

Being a Constable for all those years taught you a few good tricks…I will have to keep my eye on you LOL
    You got us good, Jill!

  19. Alex Says:

    You rascals

  20. Gary Says:

Believe me or not I actually caught on to it. I haven’t for years with the pranks the Calgary Sun puts on, but then I would assume a newspaper would be in business to print the truth even on April Fool’s Day.

I figured there was no way to make the plan feasable and something sounded fishy about it then i wondered what the date was. April 1 means April fools and I caught onto it……
