Amazon’s Kindle to Bypass Canada

kindle_canada2

Nearly two years after it was launched in the U.S., Amazon’s Kindle is going global. The company announced it will ship its wireless reading device to more than 100 countries around the world…but not to Canada. Talk about disappointment!

“We have millions of customers in countries all over the world who read English-language books,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO.  “Kindle enables these customers to think of a book and download it wirelessly in less than 60 seconds.”

Canada seems to be excluded from the Kindle announcement. When you click on availability for Canada it simply states Amazon is working on getting it to Canadian customers. Yup, Belarus, Cambodia, Croatia, Ethiopia and Estonia can all get Kindle but Canucks are out of luck.

Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for the popular device at $279, and shipments are expected to begin within 2 weeks.

While Sony’s ebook readers are great, it would sure be nice to have another option north of the border!
